Large Corridor (Japanese Cedar Doors)
Sliding Japanese cedar doors at both ends of the large corridor serve as barriers between the spaces reserved for guests and the host family. Hashimoto Gaho (1835-1908), a noted artist of the Meiji period, painted the beautiful and colorful scenes of seasonal flowers and birds on the doors. These works were previously on display at the Maeda family’s Hongo residence.
