Important Cultural Property (Structure) Date of designation: August 7, 2013

The former residence of the Maeda family was originally located in Hongo, Bunkyo City (the current location of the University of Tokyo-Hongo Campus). In 1930, Marquis Maeda Toshinari (1885-1942), the sixteenth head of the Maeda family of the former Kaga domain, relocated the residence to Komaba, Meguro City. The total area of the site is approximately 40,000m2. The granite paving blocks and curbstones in front of the main gate are those used in the former Hongo residence. The main gate has a width of 6.2m, with walls extending to the left and right from both gateposts. The gatehouse is attached to the main gate.
